    This is a young female Nyala, and further along in this gallery there is a male Nyala. The strip of dark hair along the backbone distinguishes the female Nyala from the female Greater Kudu which has a strip of white hair along her backbone.

    In the back center of the picture near the Elephants is a water source from a bore hole dug by the Park. Most animals need to drink once a day and often over graze the area around a bore hole. Consequently, the Park regularly turns off each pump for a few months to force the animals to roam more widely in the Park.

    Pel's Fishing-Owl is one of seven species of owls that are "Ospreys" of the night, that is, they hunt and eat fish and other aquatic animals not land animals. The Pel's Fishing owl is elusive and scarce. (In 2007 there was an estimated 60 birds in Kruger.) Although we searched for Pel's Fishing Owl on our other four trips, we did not see it until near the end of the fifth trip, earning itself a place on the website,
